
General Do's and Don'ts for Singers
Do.......
- drink plenty of water
- get plenty of sleep
- speak at a comfortable, natural pitch
- use a humidifier in your bedroom during the winter
- wear a face mask when cleaning/moving house
- avoid places with high pollution
- see a doctor if you are experiencing any kind of pain in your throat
Don't.......
- smoke
- take recreational drugs
- drink alcohol the day before a performance
- drink coffee, milk or other dairy products before a performance
- shout or scream
- vocalise while sneezing or yawning
- sing if you have a cold or laryngitis
- force your voice to sound unnatural (e.g. "sexy" or "manly")
- cough vigorously
- whisper loudly
- stay up late the night before a performance
